Periodic eye and vision examinations with our eye doctor are an important part of preventive health care. Many eye and vision issues have no obvious signs or symptoms. As a result, individuals are often unaware that problems exist.
Early diagnosis and treatment of eye and vision issues are critical for maintaining good vision and eye health, and when possible, preventing partial or even complete vision loss.
Vision Testing
Regular eye examinations ensure that you always have the clearest vision possible.
Depending on the results of your vision test, Dr. Kalfayan may prescribe corrective glasses or contact lenses.
Dr. Kalfayan can also present and discuss refractive surgery options. Additionally, she can provide both pre-operative and post operative refractive surgery care.
Contact Lens Exams
Nowadays almost everyone is a candidate for contact lens use. This includes patients with astigmatism, those who prefer bifocal or multifocal lenses, as well as specialty lenses. Our office offers a comprehensive array of contact lenses to suit each individual patient's needs. We offer daily disposables, extended wear soft lenses, rigid gas permeable lenses (RGP’s) and scleral lenses.
Pediatric Eye Care
We are skilled and experienced providers of comprehensive vision care for school aged children and will do our very best to make sure that their eyes are strong and healthy as they grow. We will check to make sure that your children are seeing clearly, that the two eyes are working together, focusing properly, as well as discuss the possible ways to stop or slow down their myopia progression.
Undiagnosed eye problems in school-aged children can lead to many problems including poor grades, fatigue while reading and difficulty keeping up in school. As your children grow, their scholastic visual demands grow as well. The amount of screen time they have increases every year as well. We have special lenses that can block the harmful blue light emitted from all the devices our children are using everyday.
* Children whose parents wish to significantly slow or stop the progression of myopia (nearsightedness). University studies of large samples of nearsighted children show that when Ortho K is done properly, myopia can be halted and even reversed over a period of years with the great majority of nearsighted children.
Glaucoma Evaluation and Screening
Glaucoma, the leading cause of blindness and visual impairment, is an eye disease that can lead to a permanent loss of vision. We provide all diagnostic and treatment options for glaucoma care. Glaucoma generally provides no warning signs or symptoms of disease, making testing an important part of a full vision examination.
iWellness Screening and Retinal Photography
Many diseases can begin without symptoms and without warning. Now at Atlantic Eyes Care and Spa we are offering advanced high definition digital imaging that is capable of detecting changes in the eye before the doctor can see the damage and before the patient will notice a problem.
In the early stages, you may not even notice a change in your vision, but sight threatening conditions such as retinal detachments, macular degeneration, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy can be detected earlier at the cellular level with this new technology. This is the iWellness exam.
Early detection leads to better visual outcomes. Think of it as a mammogram, a bone density scan or a MRI for the eye. Those are all tests that detect change before the disease advances. We strongly encourage all patients to undergo these valuable tests as part of your annual eye exam, and particularly for any individuals with:
- Spots, floaters, or flashes in your vision
- Diabetes/High Blood Pressure
- Eye pain / Headaches
- History of head or eye trauma
- Family history of glaucoma or macular degeneration
- Strong eyeglass prescription
- Plaquenil use, or use of certain medications for breast cancer

While it may seem like a mild irritation, the condition can lead to vision loss if the cornea is scratched or damaged if left untreated long enough.
